Romans 2:4, Psalm 130:3-4 (GNB), John 8:11
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? * If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. *She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
Being recipients of God’s goodness and mercy is never license for us to continue in sin and and to live our lives however we please. The way to show God that we genuinely appreciate His grace and mercy is to humble ourselves before Him and live our lives in a manner that will honour and please Him. Jesus made His point very clear to the woman that was caught in adultery. He had mercy on her
and told her to go and sin no more. That was the intention of the mercy that He showed her.
The mercies of God should cause us to want to present our bodies unto Him as living sacrifices, holy and acceptable unto Him, Rom.12:1. In 1Corinthians 7:25, Apostle Paul made it clear that it was the mercy of the Lord that caused him to remain faithful. Romans 6:1-4 in the NIV says, what shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
We have received a new life in Christ and now God wants us to walk in newness of life. The more we realize that we are dead, buried and raised up with Christ, the more we will walk in the newness of this new life that we have received in Christ. Let God’s grace and mercy cause you to revere Him more and serve Him. Let the goodness of God lead you to repentance and make you honour God and serve Him all the days of your life.
PRAYER FOCUS: Tell God that in appreciation of His mercies you choose to continually honour Him and live your life to please Him.
