Psalm 136:1, 13-14, 16, Lamentations 3:22
_O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever. * To him which divided the Red sea into parts: for his mercy endureth for ever: And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for his mercy endureth for ever: *To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever. *It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fail not._
In Psalm 136, the psalmist extolled the wonders of God and attributed them to God’s mercies. He referenced creation and described how God delivered and preserved the lives of the Israelites, His people. God manifests His mercies to us in various ways. Where the psalmist in our first text says ‘His mercies endureth forever,’ another translation (Good News Bible) says ‘His love is eternal.’
The mercy and love that God bestowed upon His people in times past remain available today. God is more than willing and able to love us and to show the same mercy towards us today. It is the mercy of God, not our brilliance, that preserves and beautifies our lives. In fact, it is His grace and mercy that prevent us from being consumed in various ways. In Philippians 2:27, Apostle Paul described about how God, in His infinite mercy, healed and preserved the life of Epaphroditus.
We must learn how to continually appreciate and bless the name of God for the mercies that He shows unto us as well as His mercy onto others. We must also learn how to put our trust in Him for His mercies. Psalm 147:10-11 says, He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. God wants us to rest assured of His mercies whenever we seek Him. David said, ‘surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever’ Psa.23:6. Let this continually be your stance of faith.
_Mediate on the mercies of God in your life and in the lives of others and seek Him for more of His mercies today._
