Grace to Persevere in Prayers

Ephesians 6:18,

Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.

To persevere is to persist and to continue doing what you are doing despite the seeming discouragement and frustration that you are facing. Our text above says that we should pray always and pray every prayer in the Spirit. To pray in the Spirit is to rely on the Holy Spirit for His empowerment and His direction while we pray. It is to pray under the influence of the Holy Spirit whether we are praying for ourselves or for others.

One reason why many people struggle with their prayer life is because they do not rely on the help of the Holy Spirit when they pray. The Holy Spirit is our helper and one of the major areas where we can experience His help is in our prayer lives. Praying in tongues is also a major way by which we can pray in the Spirit. Apostle Paul reminded us that when we pray in other tongues, we pray in the Spirit, 1Cor.14:14. That is, the Holy Spirit helps us to pray in the Spirit.

Hope is one thing that can cause you to persevere. The Holy Spirit will fill your heart with divine hope as you labour in the place of prayers, Rom.5:5. After referencing hope and patience, Romans 8:26-27 (NIV) says, in the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. You will prevail in the place of prayers and your prayers will attract the mighty manifestation of God’s power.

PRAYER FOCUS: Receive divine empowerment in your prayer life and pray in the Spirit right now over your desires.
