Philippians 3:13-14, 1Corinthians 2:9 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. *But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
What steps have you taken this year towards God and towards your goals and targets? What steps have you taken towards occupying till Christ comes? What are you pressing towards? What vision and hope have you set before your eyes? Jesus Himself had to fix his eyes on something so that he could continue to press forward. Hebrews 12:1-2 says, wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before
us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. The word ‘press’ indicates that there is opposition that you have to move against. One such opposition is your flesh; another is your past.Occasionally, opposition comes to test how convinced and committed you are to your cause. Opposition may also serve to test how rooted you are in God. If you dig your heels in and refuse to give in to opposition, you will grow deeper and stronger. The testing of your faith produces steadfastness and stamina in you, James 1:2-3. Will you allow opposition to press you down or hold you back? Or will you press against it and continue to move forward? The greatest determinant of what your future will be is what you decide to do now. What will you do today? What steps will you start taking? Great things lie ahead of you, child of God. Continue to press forward.
Thank God for the great things He has ahead for you and thank Him for the grace He has given you to make progress and press forward into them.
