Encourage Yourself

1Samuel 30:6 & 8 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. *And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou
shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

One major way to help you finish strong is to know how to encourage yourself. Encouragement is oxygen to the soul. There will be times when people and things you expect to
encourage you will fail to do so. What will you do in such times? There is actually no external encouragement you can r e c e i v e t h a t c a n b e c o m p a r e d t o t h e i n t e r n a l encouragement that you give yourself. And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all. Thank God for His great love and mercies over your life and family. Name the areas where you need His mercy to flow and trust that He is working and moving in those areas. One thing that will help you to encourage yourself is to remember that God is with you. He is for you. Remember God’s guidance over the years. Remember that there are things you have that others do
not have. Remember how God spared you from death. It is by God’s mercies that you have received and experienced all these things and have not been consumed. Remembering God’s mercy gives you hope, Lam.3:21-22. The mercy God has shown you in the past is a sign
that God can show you that mercy again. As God delivered you from things you were worried about in the past, He will surely deliver you from what you may be worried about now. In Deuteronomy 7:18-19, God told the Israelites that instead of being afraid of the opposition, they should remember what He did to Pharaoh and His prior mighty acts that delivered them. God assured the Israelites that the same thing would happen to whosoever they
will have to face. Allow your hope to continue to be founded on God’s mercies. Romans 9:16 says, so then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. You will prevail by the mercies of God.
