Rest in God


Psalm 127:1-2 (GNB) If the LORD does not build the house, the work of the builders is useless; if the LORD does not protect the city, it does no good for the sentries to stand guard. It is useless to work so hard for a living, getting up early and going to bed late. For the LORD provides for those he loves, while they are asleep.

God does not want us to be troubled for any reason. Instead, He wants us to perpetually rest in Him. Resting in God does not mean that you should not work hard, not pray or fail to do what you know you are to do. It means that you do whatever you do with a strong consciousness of God’s presence, His love, blessings and His promises. You should not fret and worry like people without God and without hope.
It is when we rest in God that God moves and works on our behalf. In the King James version, verse two of our text above says that He gives His beloved sleep. This season, God will give you sleep and rest in every area of your life where you have not been sleeping. When you are physically asleep, you are not conscious or disturbed by what is happening around you. Someone who is at rest in God is also undisturbed by what is happening around him or her. As the year winds down, you will not be anxious and troubled like people of the world may be. You will continue to hear God’s voice and follow His leading into the favour He has prepared for you. Rather than leaning on your own understanding, God will cause you to walk in His understanding because you trust in Him, Prov.3:5. God will be your shepherd. You will not lack and you will have peace. As you pray with thanksgiving, God’s peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, Phil.4:6-7.
