1Thessalonians 2:13: For this cause also thank we God without
ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard
of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the
word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
Never get so familiar with the Word of God that you begin to treat it as the words of men. The value you place on God’s Word determines the virtue and blessing you will get out of God’s Word. The Word of God works powerfully in you when you take it for what it is: God Himself speaking directly to you. If you really take God’s Word as God Himself speaking directly to you, it will change your attitude towards God’s Word. Your reverential attitude to God’s Word greatly affects the impact God’s Word has in your life.
God wants us to tremble at His Word, Isa.66:2. To tremble at God’s Word is to reverence God’s Word and to humbly yield ourselves to what He is saying. Do not be distracted so that you don’t miss out on anything He is saying. His words are Spirit and Life, John 6:63. There is life-giving power in God’s Word. With men, it may be impossible but with God, nothing is impossible. He is not a man that He should lie. Whatever He says comes to pass.
In the Good News Bible, Hebrews 4:12 says, the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart. Let studying or hearing God’s Word be a joy to you. In the same way, let meditating on God’s Word and obeying it be an even greater joy to you. There are great blessings attached to reading, hearing and obeying God’s Word. Revelation 1:3 says, blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written
therein: for the time is at hand.
Prayer Focus: Thank God for the privilege you have to hear His Word. Pray that His Word will become more real to you every day.
